Backup and restore
Understanding your backup and recovery requirements, current limitations and how your information change rate affects information growth and quantifies their impact on your infrastructure performance and costs. DPF Professional Services will utilize the EMC Backup Advisor, a customizable enterprise backup reporting tool, providing users unparalleled visibility into recovery operations. Real-time views of the entire backup environment lets users understand potential risks and exposures in data protection strategies across multiple products and back up domains and provide the foundation for future storage and media requirements.
The availability of low-cost and scalable Advanced Technology Attachment (ATA) disk has established backup to disk as a cost-effective alternative to tape. Disk can be deployed with minimal change to existing backup software, with data being immediately accessed and support restore times that are faster than tape. Reliability and RAID features protect against data corruption.
DPF will select from EMC’s wide range of backup applications from basic, delivering interface to either disk or tape, to advanced, requiring high performance an optimal solution to client’s environment and budget.
- EMC NetWorker, is the leader in information protection. This solution centralizes, automates and accelerates data backup recovery across your environment. It centralizes backup and recovery operations for complete control of your data across storage area networks (SANs), network-attached storage (NAS) and direct-attached storage (DAS), providing support to protect UNIX, Windows, Linux, Netware, OpenVMS and VMware operating systems. It also provides for data de-duplication and continuous data protection (CDP) as your business applications remain in service, for zero downtime.
- EMC Avamar efficient response to backing up data at clients remote facilities or branch offices where limited network band width, non-technical local staff, failure prone tape-base hardware makes centralized, customated WAN-based backup an error prone strategy. Avamar uses de-duplication technology to identify redundant data segments at the source, reducing daily backup data, before transferring over the network, enabling backup via existing LAN/WAN band width. Avamar verifies the recoverability of data and data is encrypted during transit for security. An additional highlight of this feature rich product is the capability to efficiently and timely protect virtual machines by sending only the changed segments of data, daily, greatly reducing backup performance for virtualized environment. This innovative solution combines the value of data de-duplication, backup and recovery software and VMWare virtualization infrastructure.
DPF Professional Service Group will install the appropriate cost effective storage platforms for Back-up-disk SAN and LAN platforms from the comprehensive set available from EMC for various sized companies.
- EMC CLARiiON CX3, CLARiiON AX and Celerra NS are storage arrays with ATA disk that can be used as backup targets for open systems that connect to either a SAN or IP Network which significantly accelerate backup and restore performance and reliability. In addition to the EMC storage platforms.
- EMC Disk Library - A solution that emulates leading open systems tape libraries, drives and cartridges. Tape evaluations provide performance and availability not available with tape. It integrates into existing tape environment, including vaulting and management procedures, without changing your existing processes.
- ADIC Scalar Tape Libraries - These Libraries provide tape-based solutions for open systems backup/restore on for environments that do not have aggressive recovery time objectives and are looking for the lowest possible acquisition cost.
By extending the Tiered Storage Methodology to backup/recovery operations, organizations can dramatically improve the speed and reliability of their backup and recovery processes, utilizing disk-based solutions which deliver substantial recovery times compared with tape-based solutions.
